I am a Mouse
Summer series
I am a little bitty mouse
Scurrying all about.
I’m busy building my nest
And collecting cheese
When suddenly a strong wind blows
And it all goes flying
Away. Away. Far, far away from me!
This means I have to start over all over again
I find pieces to build my nest
Straw and string and leaves and lint
But I build it in a more secure place this time
The cheese is more difficult to get the second time around
Oh no!!!! I’ve been seen.
I must hurry. Hurry. Hurry!
Back to my nest that is so secure!
I eat my cheese and I sleep a little
But in the night it begins to rain
Some water collects near my nest
Some more collects behind my nest so secure
Before long my little nest is floating in water!!!
Then whoosh, it’s all swept away again.
So in the morning I must find a new home
A place that’s not only more secure but also up above the chance of flooding
I find pieces to build my nest
There is still a crumb of cheese available
My home is now in a brick wall facing away from the street
Up high above the street level where it cannot flood
I build my home and I eat my cheese
I get to stay here for several days until the alley cat finds me!!
In my little hole I plaster myself to the back wall
Trying to avoid the paw that’s reaching in.
Oh no!!! He almost got me!
I have to run!!!!
So the next time the paw withdraws I JUMP!
The cat is so focused on reaching into the hole, he never sees me escape!
So I start to gather things to build my nest….

This is so cute!! I love the first person point of view of the little mouse. Poor guy!!
Marsha ~ I really liked your poem about the tenacious mouse. It made me hope his persistence will pay off. xoxo
